March
to June every year is very significant for the followers
of Buddhism all world over and Tibetan community. Following
Losar celebrations in the end of February & beginning
of March this year there have been fortnight long teachings
by His Holiness Dalai Lama.
Come May, the “Saka Dawa” festival &
Puja starts from 25th May – 1st June 2007.
Saka Dawa festival marks the Sakya Muni Buddha’s
Birth, Enlightenment & Death is celebrated on the
15th day of the fourth month of the Lunar Calendar corresponding
to June. This year Saka Dawa falls on 1st June 2007.
Saka Dawa prayers are conducted in the monasteries as
well as in the respective homes by the individuals.
Chanting sessions by the lamas, prayers wheel turning,
and masked dances in the monasteries are the highlights
of the day. A large number of foreign devotees visit
Dharamsala during this period.
